Podiatry

Dr Abdul Habra
Your legs and feet are the foundation of the interconnected structure that is your body. In the same way that a problem with the foundation of a building can cause problems with the building, problems with your feet and legs can cause other issues with your body. Seeking podiatry treatment can help to prevent further injury and curing painful foot and lower leg conditions.
Our Ideal Health Solutions podiatrist, Dr Abdul Habra, has been practising for more than 10 years. He specialises in biomechanics and gait anomalies and provides tailored and caring treatment for each one of his patients.

The benefits of podiatry

Sore feet can prevent you from living your best life. They can inhibit your mobility and cause other problems throughout your body.
Some of the common problems that can be treated and managed through podiatry include:
  • Foot injuries
  • Ingrown toenails
  • Shin pain and shin splints
  • Achilles tendonitis
  • Nerve pain
  • Plantar warts, bunions and fungal problems
  • Cracked heels, heel spurs, corns and calluses
  • Plantar fasciitis
  • Management of stress fractures
Through treatment, our podiatrist can not only treat the symptoms of your pain but also discover and treat the root cause to prevent or manage further recurrence of the issues.

What to expect from your first appointment

Abdul will first start by understanding your medical history and the specific details of your current ailment. The more detail you can give him about what triggers your issue and anything that you can do to alleviate it, the better he will be able to come to a diagnosis.
The reason we go into so much detail is because we are as much interested in removing the symptoms of pain as we are about fixing the cause of the issue.
From this examination, Abdul will recommend a treatment plan and start treatment of your issue. Ideal Health Solutions is a multidisciplinary practice so if you need complementary treatment beyond podiatry - such as chiropractic or physiotherapy - Abdul can refer you to one of our other specialists.

Podiatry for sports injuries

Whether you are a professional athlete or a sports enthusiast, sports injuries, caused by repetitive motions, forceful impacts, overutilisation or failing to warm up adequately are often par for the course.
If you shrug off the injury without treatment, it can lead to serious problems in years to come. Some of these podiatry related sports injuries can include:
  • Achilles tendinopathy
  • Ankle injuries and sprains
  • Shin splints
  • Stress fractures of the feet
  • Knee cap pain (runner’s knee)
  • Plantar fasciitis or chronic heel pain

At Ideal Health Solutions we are focussed on treatment and rehabilitation to get you back on your feet and in peak condition. We conduct biomechanical assessments and develop a tailored treatment plan which will also include an evaluation of your footwear and the fitting of orthotics (as required).

Orthotic therapy

Orthotics are a non-surgical option to correct foot problems by supporting and gently repositioning and realigning your foot. They can also help to make standing and walking more comfortable.
Abdul is trained to make custom orthotics and is passionate about the benefits of orthotic therapy for podiatry treatment, including:
  • Supporting the ankle
  • Minimising the risk of further injuries
  • Correcting common foot problems such as flat feet, high arches, hammer toes, arthritis, bunions, bursitis, plantar fasciitis and heel spurs
  • Improving the functionality of the ankle

Orthotics are usually used as part of a broad podiatry treatment plan which may also include physical therapy exercises.

Paediatric podiatry

Children’s feet are very different from adult feet. But so often when children complain of sore feet or legs this is dismissed as growing pains. Unfortunately, contrary to popular opinion, children don’t “grow out” of conditions such as flat feet.
The good news is that early podiatry intervention can have excellent long term outcomes, saving your child from a lifetime of pain.
The common childhood symptoms that indicate the need for podiatry include:
  • Flat feet
  • Bowed legs
  • Tripping, stumbling or walking on the toes
  • Toes issues - pigeon toes, hammer toes, clawed toes
  • Ingrown toenails
  • Foot, leg, heel, calf, achilles or knee pain
  • Bunions or warts
